Section 1: The False Claims Acts (FCA) - Federal and State
The False Claims Acts are valuable tools to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in government programs.
These Acts create a "partnership" between federal and state officials and private citizens in order to fight fraud against the government.
The Acts let people, who are aware of fraud, file lawsuits on behalf of the government against those committing fraud. These individuals are referred to as "qui tam plaintiffs" or "whistleblowers". The Acts protect whistleblower employees from retaliation by their employers.
